With our proprietary and patented technology platform, we developed sustainable security and differentiation for bottled drinks with plastic packaging. Our process is seamlessly integrated in standard production and does not require consumables or additives.
We design and nano-engrave with a resolution of 130,000dpi custom iridescent designs directly on free-form steel moulds and cavities used for the production of moulded plastic packaging. The designs are replicated into the plastic during standard production, with irresistible visual effects. No printing, labelling or post-processing is necessary.
Our anti-counterfeiting and brand enhancement solution is available for moulded caps and closures, and hot-fill blow-moulded bottles, with potential applications to other processes and materials.

The plastic packaging has a brilliant and uncopiable design from the moment it is manufactured, with no additional steps or change in production. The lifetime of the nano-engraving in the mould is compatible with standard mould life-time, and the visual effects on the plastic are robust and intense.
The design can be customised according to the customer's needs, from simple logos to complex images and effects. The chromatic exuberance triggers the consumer's innate curiosity, reminding them of the iridescence of rainforest butterflies, which nature developed for natural selection and enhanced communication.
When used on caps and closures with tamper-evident features, it authenticates the originality of the product inside: it becomes a solution against illegal re-fill, easier to implement and more secure and sustainable than tamper-evident shrink-sleeves and labels. If the closure is opened it is not damaged, and if it was damaged it could not be replaced with a look-alike or copycat.
Morphotonix was founded in 2014 in Switzerland as a high-tech start-up from EPFL (the Swiss Federal Technical Institute of Lausanne). Our proprietary platform is based on over 40 years of expertise in nanotechnology and innovative patterning techniques, and developed to fit the industrial requirements of the FMCG manufacturing industry.
Clariant featured our solution in their COLORFORWARD® 2016 PALETTE as a way for their customers "to make products and packaging more successful in the marketplace".
Together with our industrial partners, we were awarded the Innovation prize in Shanghai in 2015 at the Holography Conference and were nominated at the Innovation Gallery during PharmaPack 2016 in Paris. The first product secured with our solution was launched on the market in March 2016.
