Lauren Mikos: We are category creators, launching performance-driven products that offer operators new valuecreating opportunities. In doing so, we balance sustainability and work with the highest ethical standards in fibre, resin and other materials. LBP delivers innovation to the places where our customers nourish their brands, with the performance they demand.
As it relates to beverage, we are pioneers in the hot-beverage space, a category that is a large part of our DNA. LBP is a leading producer of corrugated hot cup sleeves, cups and other beverage packaging products. LBP helped create the bulk beverage category, having produced innovation with the now-iconic trademarked product Beverage on the Move.
There was no simple way for operators to sell, or consumers to handle, eight cups of coffee at once, so a bulk carrier satisfied an unmet need in the market. The complication was that the original products required users to manually inflate a coffee bladder bag before filling. This was necessary to prevent back-flow during the filling process. The workaround was to blow into or use fingers to inflate the bag. However, both methods posed food safety issues and were inefficient for operators.
LBP developed a patented process that eliminated the need to manually inflate the bag. Instead, it automatically inflates as the box is converted from a flat state to a fully formed container, saving time and money while providing a cleaner solution for customers.
Much of what we do is fibre-based, but we approach each opportunity from a material-neutral perspective. It all starts with having an intimate understanding of project needs and goals. This is when our team gets to work finding the right partners to collaborate with. Together we think about the problem and then quickly focus on solutions, adopting a rapid ideation model that gets our team pointed in the right direction. That is in fact how one of our most recent registered innovations, Thermolite, came to be.
In a mature category such as hot-cup sleeves - which are part of a daily ritual for many consumers - we were challenged to deliver a more sustainable, costeffective and higher-performing product. LBP's team and our partners immediately got to work testing concepts to bring greater value and innovative solutions to this global category. Our collaborative process produced a product that uses 35% less fibre, while maintaining thermal performance characteristics and other key product attributes.
As a result, LBP delivered meaningful innovation to a corrugated packaging product. We continue to advance with corrugated materials by being a focused solutions provider not only in beverage, but also in other spaces such as catering and delivery.
