Danny Hompus: Molins Langen is deeply rooted in Canada and the Netherlands, and has built up extensive experience in the packaging industry for more than 60 years. Founded in 1956 in Canada by Dutch immigrants, our firm introduced the first manual load cartoning machine just two years later. Thanks to our boundless commitment to innovation, we went on to introduce the rotary carton feeder in the 1970s, which remains an industry standard. The following decade, we opened a subsidiary in the Netherlands to serve the European market and thereafter became part of Molins PLC. We expanded our global presence by opening offices in South East Asia. In 2017, all Molins businesses were combined to better serve customers' needs.
At Molins Langen, we have built up an extensive knowledge in handling bottles for spirits and wines in luxury gift boxes. We provide unique high-speed solutions for the packaging of bottles in cartons, tubes, or a combination of the two. Within this range, we can fill cartons horizontally and vertically. Our packaging lines are also designed for high flexibility, and are capable of handling different bottle designs and sizes. Robotic loading of cartons to the machine can also be added. Most importantly, our machines are built with the kind of robust quality that has brought Molins Langen considerable renown in the packaging industry. We recently heard from one of our biggest customers that they spend less money on maintenance on a Langen-brand machine for the total lifetime than for one year on a competitor's machine. Furthermore, we retain considerable experience in developing novel packaging formats that are web based, such as paper, laminates and multilayered packaging. In collaboration with the customer, we can also design new packaging shapes or look to different formats for cost price reduction of the package. Lastly, we can easily deliver the necessary high-speed equipment to form fill and seal newly designed packages.
When handling luxury products, there is no room for any scratch or small damage. We know that the smallest details count in delivering the products to the quality requirements of our customers. We have developed unique features for gentle and positive product handling to assure the requested product quality levels. These include our carton-carrying system, which prevents damage by sliding cartons through the machine, and our patented five-head rotary feeder to handle lower quality cartons and improved carton erection. Molins Langen can also provide automatic glue adjustment reacting to change of speeds, open-flap detection to control correct closed cartons and tubes, and dedicated design for smooth operation when feeding bottles into the carton or tube, in addition to automatic changeover features to assure accurate and repeatable changeovers in limited time.
In order to grow as a business, a dedicated focus on internal research into and development of new products is a must in the packaging industry. Molins Langen has a proud history of investing in R&D to bring truly innovative products to market that solve real customer problems. Technologies are evolving quickly and the requirements of customers are evolving even faster. In order to be competitive, we invest in new solutions in order to remain at the forefront in our industry. We are happy to say that, for the coming years, we will continue to invest increasing amounts in R&D in order to deliver new products and extend our capabilities in order to deliver solutions that fit our customer needs.
We're seeing more and more that our customers want to separate themselves from their competitors through their packaging. To that end, we are looking into improving our solutions to provide more data for diagnostics and performance management in order to improve the performance even more. Fundamentally, packaging becomes a way for companies to connect with their consumers. We're always exploring new ways to help our customers deliver a great experience to their consumers, in order for them to retain their market share or even expand it.
