MacDermid introduced the award-winning LUX® Platemaking Technology in 2010. This flat-top dot technology enables flexo printers to increase print quality, improve print consistency, and reduce operating costs and waste. This process involves the use of a simple lamination device that can be added to any digital platemaking workflow, adding 4-6 minutes to the platemaking process.
Leveraging the knowledge gained through the introduction of LUX Lamination, MacDermid went on to launch LUX In-the-Plate (ITP) in 2014. LUX ITP provided all the benefits of LUX Lamination, but with the convenience of flat-top dots right out the box. No additional platemaking steps or equipment are needed to take advantage of the print quality and consistency that LUX flat-top dots provide.
MacDermid's Digital MWW, another plate technology from MacDermid ideally suited to the flexible packaging industry, can provide flexible packaging printers with a true step change in white ink laydown. Digital MWW was designed for optimised white ink laydown, providing higher opacity, reduced mottle, and improved overprint performance. Digital MWW's formulation can be combined with MacDermid's LUX process, along with specific advanced prepress screening techniques, to create a true game changer when it comes to white ink laydown. The use of Digital MWW can result in direct savings in ink, as printers can move jobs from a two-pass process to a single station of white ink.
MacDermid's Digital MAF is the digital sheet photopolymer specifically designed to address all direct print corrugated board requirements. Digital MAF has a dot profile that is optimised for post print corrugated, resulting in dramatically reduced fluting without the use of additional platemaking techniques or exposure systems. Digital MAF simply prints better; right out of the box.
By increasing the quality of direct print and reducing fluting, doors are opened for printers and CPGs wishing to reduce costs by eliminating pre-printed liner from their corrugated packaging printing process.
The MacDermid LAVA™ Thermal Plate Processing System is ideally suited for narrow web tag and label printers that may require a smaller equipment footprint than solvent systems. Thermal platemaking improves productivity and workflow, generating press-ready plates in less than an hour. Further, LAVA Thermal Plate Processing eliminates solvents and VOCs from the platemaking process, resulting in a more environmentally friendly process.
MacDermid's UVR, a digital photopolymer printing plate, is tailored for the narrow web market as it was specifically designed for UV inks. UVR was designed to swell less than other flexographic plates in aggressive UV inks. By their very nature, UV inks can affect flexo plate material more than solvent or water-borne inks. UVR swells less under these conditions, giving longer lifetime and more consistent print than plates with similar physical properties. UVR can be processed in either solvent or thermal systems.
