Zeller+Gmelin is a key player in UV ink technology. We are a medium-sized independent company with subsidiaries and trading partners all over the world. Today, we are deliver in more than 85 country in the world. In close cooperation with our customers we develop individual solutions for sophisticated tasks.

Zeller+Gmelin was founded in 1866 and since then has been completely privately owned, given the company a high level of independence, flexibility and customer focus. Also the head office is still located on the foundation site in Eislingen/Fils between Ulm and Stuttgart, Germany.

Since 1970 radiation curing has been the special focus of our research and development activities Today we are among the leading manufacturers of radiation curable printing inks and lacquers worldwide.

The company offers UV printing inks, lacquers and varnishes for all of the printing processes used in the label and packaging printing industry.

LED-UV

In the segment of LED-UV curing technology, with Uvalux® LED U45 we developed a new gloss optimised LED-UV-process colours for offset printing. The inks are designed for sheet-fed and web offset printing and meet the requirements of the process standard offset printing (PSO) according to ISO 12647-2. Amongst others, a typical area of application is non-food packaging printing.

In addition to the good gloss effect, the inks offer a high colour strength and provide an improved ink yield thanks to the optimised pigmentation. In printing, the series convinces with a stable printing behaviour in both ink duct and dampening unit even with extremely high or low inking settings. The printing ink manufacturer from Eislingen has designed the formulation of the Uvalux®-LED-U45 series in order to ensure a fast LED UV-curing in the wavelength ranges 365, 375, 385 and 395 nm. Process colours as well as a monopigmented basic colour mixing system are currently available for this series.

With UVALUX LED U0850 / U0851 we have a new LED-UV curing cold-foil adhesive system which was developed for print finishing applications on offset presses.

At the moment we work at the development of an LED-Flexo series and an LED low migration system for food packaging.

HUV

With the newly developed Uvalux® HUV U48 ink series Zeller+Gmelin will present a series of highly reactive process colours designed for UV-offset printing with iron-doped UV-lamps. This printing concept, which is marketed under various names such as LE-UV, H-UV, HR-UV or LEC-UV by manufacturers of printing presses is an area currently experiencing a high growth rate, especially from traditional commercial printers looking to upgrade their processes and benefit from the many advantages of radiation curing technology.

Low migration UV printing ink for food packaging

One main part of Zeller+Gmelin is the development of low migrations UV printing ink systems for food packaging. Based on latest developments Zeller+Gmelin presents a new generation of FCM UV-printing ink system.

In the following we specify our current low-migrated ink series of the different application areas:

  • UV-Flexo Printing
  • UV-Offset Printing
  • UV-Waterless Offset Printing
  • UV-Dry Offset Printing for preformed plastic containers
  • EB-Offset.

All low migration inks series have the official Nestlé-approval.

Analytical-Centre

After the adoption of the 1935/2004 directive for packaging in contact with food, Zeller+Gmelin has expanded their analytical department especially in the field of the analysis of printing ink systems. Their analytical centre is specially used for the development of low-migration inks, for raw material control and raw material selection as well as for the internal verification of test samples.
Currently, packaging and raw materials are tested via gas chromatography with mass spectrometry and fluid chromatography with mass spectrometry.

In addition to their own internal examination Zeller+Gmelin always have their low-migration ink series examined and assessed by independent analysis institutes. This double checking enables the ink manufacturer to state that their inks offer maximum product safety to printers, packaging customers and consumers.

Special customer service

Furthermore, as a special service, Zeller+Gmelin will also offer the resources in their analysis centre to their customers.

Being a technically oriented company it is our goal to give optimal support to our customers for their work. Therefore we do not only offer high-quality products but also comprehensive advisory service. For all questions concerning the printing process you will find a competent and also personal contact person with us.

To support our customers we have established a technical service centre with practically experienced application engineers. We provide help for all challenges of printing technology and for special requirements. By request we install in cooperation with our customers tailor-made colourimetric systems and ink mixing stations and train their employees.
