SP Group sends plastic to help prevent the spread of COVID‐19 and fight the disease

16 April 2020

These are unprecedented times. The State of Emergency in our country has paralysed many activities, and mobilised businesses and the general public to do everything they can to help. Aware of the speed at which COVID-19 can spread, and of the usefulness of plastic as a raw material in this situation, SP GROUP was determined to tackle this challenge head on and do its bit. Plastic is a priceless material in these times. Not only is it needed for the distribution and protection of food products, it also plays an essential part in countering and neutralising the propagation of the virus.

Producers of food products and basic necessities currently have to function at full capacity, as their products are required to refill supermarket shelves in record time. This means SP GROUP is handling an increased number of orders, far exceeding normal levels. In addition, and in order to help those most in need - our health professionals -, we are using the same plastic, but in other formats, to produce protective equipment for pharmacies and hospitals, and to make protective gowns for medical workers. In the words of CEO, Francisco Bernal: ‘Now is when our raw material, plastic, truly comes into its own, demonstrating its usefulness and versatility. It is essential, not only for the food industry and basic needs sector, but also for the safety and high degree of personal protection it affords. This problem affects all of us, and we believe it is our duty to offer our help to any organisations that need it’.

SP GROUP has also donated plastic to IMIBIC (Maimonides Biomedical Research Institute of Cordoba) in response to their request, enabling them to provide 10,000 protective visors for hospitals in the area, ten 100m rolls for local health centres and 3,500m of plastic which will be used to make protective gowns for health personnel in Cordoba. Protective screens have also been provided to the Pedro Nunes Institute in Coimbra, Portugal. All this has been possible thanks to the hard work and dedication of all the workers in our company, whose safety and wellbeing has been guaranteed at all times.
